Our Approach to Therapy: Healing that is human, connection that transforms

At coeo, therapy is more than treatment, it is a relationship built on trust, curiosity, and respect for your story. We believe that healing happens in connection, not isolation. The relationship between you and your therapist becomes the foundation for growth, safety, and real change.

Our work is trauma-informed, attachment-centered, and grounded in authenticity. We meet you with compassion and honesty, helping you explore what is happening beneath the surface rather than just managing symptoms. Together, we slow down, make sense of patterns, and build practical tools that bring your life into alignment with your values.

We see therapy as both insight and action, reflection and movement. It is about coming home to yourself and learning to live in ways that feel more connected, present, and alive.

Ready to take that next step?

Here is what to expect with individual therapy at coeo:

Therapy is a collaborative process, not a one-size-fits-all experience. Your therapist will meet you where you are and tailor each session to your needs and goals.

We start by exploring what brought you here, what you hope for, and what support feels most helpful. Together, we create a plan that balances safety, structure, and flexibility so you can begin at your own pace.

Before your first session, please:

• Complete your intake forms through our secure client portal
• Review your Good Faith Estimate and payment details
• Test your telehealth link or confirm in-person directions
• Bring any questions, hopes, or hesitations to discuss openly

Sessions are typically 1 hour and are often weekly at the start, tapering as you gain confidence and stability. Each meeting is a mix of conversation, reflection, skill-building, and deeper work when ready.

For clients ready for focused, accelerated work, coeo offers EMDR and relational therapy intensives. These are extended sessions designed to help you move through stuck points, process trauma, and make meaningful shifts in a shorter timeframe. Intensives can stand alone or complement ongoing therapy.

Growth happens both inside and outside the therapy room. Your therapist may offer reflections, journal prompts, or small practices to help you integrate what you are learning. You can also check in briefly between sessions if something important comes up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Identity exploration and LGBTQIA+ affirming care are among coeo’s core specialties. We create safe, judgment-free spaces where you can explore your authentic self, navigate identity questions, and heal from past experiences. Our therapists are trained to support you wherever you are in your journey, empowering you to move beyond survival and into a life that feels true to who you are.

Absolutely. Therapy isn’t just for crisis moments. It’s for growth, self-discovery, and learning to navigate life’s challenges before they become overwhelming. You don’t need to be in crisis to deserve support. Many people come to therapy simply because they want to understand themselves better, build healthier habits, or work through something that’s been weighing on them. Think of therapy as a space to invest in yourself, whether life feels really hard right now or you just need a moment to work through some things.

That’s completely normal, and you’re not alone in feeling that way. Many people start therapy without a clear agenda, and that’s okay. Your therapist will help you figure it out together. Sometimes just showing up and talking about what’s been on your mind (even if it feels scattered or unclear) can lead to important insights. The coeo team is here to help. During your free 15-minute consultation, we’ll learn more about what’s going on for you and help you identify where to start. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you begin.

Your therapy journey is unique to you. Factors like your needs, readiness for change, session length, and engagement all play a role. Typically, you’ll start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, but this can adjust over time as you progress. Our goal is to empower you to heal and thrive as quickly as possible. We often say our job is to put ourselves out of business. We won’t keep you in therapy longer than necessary. Ultimately, the duration depends on you and your goals. We’re here to support your journey to health and freedom, for as long as you need us.

Investing in your care

We operate as a private-pay practice, which means we choose to not bill insurance directly. Private pay aligns with our values and means we answer to you, not them. It means we can offer the personalized care you deserve. Longer sessions if needed, treatment plans that evolve with you, not with arbitrary session limits. No diagnoses weaponized in permanent records. No justifying your humanity to meet “medical necessity” criteria. Just real therapy, built around your actual needs.

We also provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and help you navigate that process.

Reduced-Fee Options: We also hold a limited number of reduced-fee slots because we believe healing shouldn’t only be accessible to people with disposable income. If cost is a barrier, let’s talk. We’d rather work something out than have you go without the support you deserve. We also offer therapy with highly trained graduate interns at a reduced rate per session. This option provides more affordable access to care while offering interns strong clinical supervision and support.
